Online Craft Club Show and Tell #18

It’s Friday again! How does it happen that Friday comes around again so quickly? It’s crazy. Crazy, I say.

At any rate, I’ve been busy again this week. Here you can see the wallaby. The pocket is attached, and I have about half an inch before the yoke. I’ll be making sleeves shortly, IF I have the proper size dpns. Determining not to spend money on crafts until I have completed 12 projects may present some dilemmas. If I need needles can I borrow them from you?

And here is Fantasy Ride. I really tried last night to get this corner finished, but I gave up at quarter til one and went to bed.

Now, I know you can see that this is not the normal level of craftiness you usually see here on Fridays. But I have a reason, and I can illustrate it for you with a picture. I am in the throes of a whole house purge. We are downsizing, getting rid of what we don’t use. Yesterday, for instance, we moved the craft stuff out of the bottom of the china hutch so we could use it for actual dining room type stuff. It was left in there from when that hutch was in the living room. This picture illustrates just why I don’t need to spend more money on crafts. This is a stack of books, magazines and scrapping supplies, and it’s not even all of the scrapping stuff. Yeah. I love to make stuff, and making stuff takes a lot of stuff. But not this much stuff.

I have got to weed through all the mess and use it/lose it/plan it. Even a gold anklet can feel like a ball and chain if it’s heavy enough, ykwim.

Here’s how to play:

Take a picture of your current project, whatever that happens to be. Or maybe one you recently finished. Or the materials for the one you are about to start. Let’s say materials for a project in whatever state it happens to be in at the time you snap it. On Friday, post the picture and tell us about your project. What you did, or what you are going to do. How much you are enjoying it, or hating it. You know–show and tell.

Online Craft Club Show and Tell #17

I’ve been a busy, busy girl this week. And I’ve also made time to craft. :)

You remember the hat, right?

And then I picked up the Fantasy Ride and came within a couple-three hours of finishing that lower right corner.

And then I found the Wonderful Wallaby pattern. Yesterday, as soon as I had done some cleaning of the leftover mess (yeah I know I said I was going to finish that, but, it’s the Wallaby. Knitting crack, see? ) and written lesson plans for Spidey, I cast on one for Drama.

She asked me first thing this morning if it was done yet. Clearly the child has a warped view of the knitting process. So, what have you been making?

I can touch them all

So, I’ve been building a library, which you may or may not know. Here’s what I know you don’t know, because I haven’t mentioned it to anyone yet: My knitting books are now on the shelves right beside my desk. Ya’ll I have knitting books beside my desk! Like, half a shelf. Which isn’t an incredible LOT of knitting books, but it’s a lot more than I had beside my desk before. I can pull them out at will for inspiration or instruction. In fact, the only way this could possibly be better would be if they were on the top shelf instead of the bottom. (My teaching books are the top instead.)(Cook books in the middle, just knew you had to know.)

In other news, I am still working on Fantasy Ride, and I am hopeful to have the second quadrant done by Friday. Also, there are doc appointments this afternoon, and I am debating trying to take it or finding some knitting to take instead. Decisions, decisions again. If I had as many diamond rings as I have possible projects ….. I could sell some of them and buy more knitting books.

Oh, I had a mini goal on my way to my main goal of 12 projects this year, and I met it!
I wanted to get the lower left quadrant of Fantasy Ride completed and I finished it last night! Exciting times, I tell you! It was really iffy, because as I was stitching along yesterday evening, the knitting bug bit. I mean, I was jonesin’ for the needles, ya’ll. It was bad in here! But I held myself back by pattern gazing instead. I am thinking about doing something like Sweetness for Spidey’s mal-fitting sweater. I am thinking about PrepSchool for a friend of mine (yeah, Ted, that means you!) But I am also considering the lower right quadrant of this piece. Decisions, decisions. And what I really, really, really want to do is finish Sonnet. Except I am beginning to think I ate the yarn in my sleep. Perhaps it is time to file a claim on my home insurance. What exactly is the value of a sweater months in the making, though?

Holidays are for stitching and goal setting

I have decided I really like holidays, because on holidays, I sit around and stitch. Let’s just say that on Friday, you will be very surprised :)

So, I’ve been thinking, as I have been stitching, about what I want to do craft-wise this new year. I sort of have my in my mind that I would like to finish a project per month. That’s a goal of just 12 projects, and I usually go way over that, so I have to make a hitch in it: I’d like to finish 12 projects without spending any money on supplies. Can I create for 365 364 days without dipping into paypal? No Joann or AC Moore? Should I build myself a way out? I know, for instance, that I will need a frame before I can declare Fantasy Ride completely finished, but I also know that if I go to buy that frame, other things will find their way into my cart, much like I went to Joann last summer to buy buttons and quilt backing and ended up with supplies for another quilt. I can get the project ready to frame for free though.

And I really, really want a copy of Big Girl Knits, too. Hmm, I guess a goal isn’t worth anything if it doesn’t cause you to stretch just a bit, huh? But no money at all? For a year? That may be a bit too tight. Let’s try this: once I finish those 12, then I can buy something if I want to. According to my budget software, this is a very good idea.

Only One?

I was just looking at my WIPs page and had a shocking realization: technically, I only have one active yarn-type project OTN. Seriously! There are actually 5 projects, but 2 are scrap, one I don’t have the rest of the yarn for, and one I have lost the last ball. That leaves one, people, just ONE. How did that happen? I am practically projectless!

I also looked at my stash page and nothing interested me today, more than the project I am currently doing, so I think I’ll end up cross-stitching some more today. I am burning that Fantasy Ride up. Of course, it helps that there are major open areas in the work, LOL! How it came to be that my stash page doesn’t make me drool is beyond my comprehension, though. That’s just weird.

Hmm, I meant to have a big long entry here, but having now said what I had to say, I think I’ll go stitch. After I finish blogging, of course.

3/10, TAR, Sleeve, Christmas Eve

I just realized that three of my last 10 posts contained pictures of my face. Quite the narcissist, huh? Hmm, I guess it’s time to talk about knitting again or something. Which I would gladly do, since I did sit down to watch The Amazing race last night with my knitting, and I planned to get right to that…except that I got “lapped’, and by that I mean, SomeBaby wanted to sit with me. I’ve finally learned that the one thing that absolutely will not wait is a baby that wants your lap. Tomorrow, they’ll be one day older, and soon enough, not a baby at all. The sleeve will wait :)

So, are you ready? I am. This year, the children are getting three gifts under the tree, Santa is bringing a family gift and filling stockings, and that’s it. Financially and space-wise, it is impossible for me to do for 8 kids what I did for one, or even for two or three. There’s a freedom in that. They don’t lack for thing, and if you could see the amount of stuff that has gone out of here for goodwill and the town dump over the past three weeks, you would understand exactly what I mean. Too much stuff. More stuff than even military relocation specialists could manage. And I haven’t done my room yet. I will though, and soon.

Speaking of babies (see the first paragraph), posting will likely be light this week. I have children to play with. :)

Girly Girl Squeeeeeeeee for Aromaleigh

Oh honeys. My samples came, and I had myself a little makeover last night.

This is Glissade 1C for the foundation and finishing and Rocks! Sonic Eye NightShift (yes, it’s an eyeshadow) for blush. And then I placed an order.

This morning, I played again!

This is PF for foundation (trying to make my samples last) Pink blush, and the Glissade for finishing. Rawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwr! Way more fun than the used cisco I was supposed to talk about.
