Happy Birthday, Drama

Today is Drama’s birthday, and she is an amazing three years old. As usual, I am not quite sure how that happened, because just last week, she was a scrawny 5 and half pound newborn!

One of the things I enjoy about laying down with Drama is that she is a rubber. Usually to go to sleep, she sucks her thumb and caresses her own ear. But if I lay down with her, she rubs my hand or arm instead. Her warm little hand feels so loving. It’s a simple pleasure, but one I enjoy.

She’s also full of cute sayings, like she says ya’ll, ya’ll. As in, “I want to play Scrabble with ya’ll. This is a recent development, but it marks her as undeniably southern, doesn’t it? For the record, she still has to have a lot of help to play Scrabble.

And also she says, “Winnie-of-the-Pooh” unless it’s something Pooh related that she wants, in which case, it is “Winnie-of-my-Pooh”. And one of my favorites, “Cover up my big butt”.

She’s convinced that she’s five now, and laughs every time we ask her how old she is. Thanks for keeping us giggling, little gal!

Learning Everday

There are awards I am familiar with, and apparently many more that I am not. As I was browsing for assignments this morning, I discovered that there are awards for banking. I read that A&L were awarded the “Best Current Account Provider” award in 2006 for their bank accounts. I’d never heard of such a thing, but it certainly sounds lke more fun than the awards I’ve been handing out lately, including best distance and worst stench. Yeah, I can joke a little bit now that the worst appears to be over.

Seriously though, this is a good idea, because it gives consumers more information on which to base their financial decisions, and more information when it comes to money is a good thing. I confess to being woefully uninformed in this area, and I probably need to correct that. Ignorance is not bliss all the time. So, where do you find the best financial advice? Do you look for awards and certifications, or do you rely on word of mouth?

WWKIP Day

My friend Skeet saw the announcement for [tag]World Wide Knit in Public Day[/tag], and gave me a quick heads up on it. She’s a great friend, cause, ya’ll, she doesn’t even knit!

Anyway, the big day is Saturday, June 9th. Mark your calendars, unless I am the last knitter in the known universe to find out about this. Do you have any plans for the day? I was thinking last night that it was about time I got back in the groove as far as my knitting roup goes. I haven’t been in forever, and I really miss it. Perhaps I’ll see what, if anything they have planned for that day.

Oh, almost forgot: you can find out what others in your area are up to by visiting the World Wide Knit in Public Day site. So far as I could find, there’s nothing organized for my area yet.

Gift ideas

Aren’t these lovely? I’m window shopping for Christmas already. Can you tell? I found these Bridesmaid Favors, and thought they would be great for my older girls. They are just $13.95 and I can have their names put on them for free. I really like finding neat trinkets like this, and two of my girls really enjoy these kinds of baubles. I think the other one does, too, but she just won’t admit it.

There are lots of other nice things on this site as well. I don’t see any reason not to buy from a wedding favor store just because no one I know is getting married, do you? I’m certain my sponsor would agree that any occasion is a fine occasion to give one of their lovely gifts, and I enjoy thinking outside of the box when it comes to gifts. And at this price, it’s even more fun, because I can afford to get one for myself, too. That’s the best part of shopping isn’t it?

I have not even thought about what to get the boys, and that means I am running behind my schedule for Christmas. I usually have some concept of what to get by this time. It’s just been a year of flux and busy-ness, and I haven’t been able to catch my breath since it started. It’s getting to the point that I don’t know any other way to live, but I keep hoping for life to settle down just the tiniest bit, ykwim?

Can I come out and play?

I think we are on the upswing folks. I’ve got a little bit of energy today, so i will be trying to clean up a bit. I’ve already started the washer load of bedding. Dh and I have been sleeping on mis-matched sheets for several days, since one of the kiddos threw up on my favorite cotton jersey knit bed sheets. Those things are so comfy. When it says it’s just like sleeping on a t-shirt, believe it. I have two sets of those, and one traditional set. Suffice it to say that the traditional set, though lovely, gets very little use.

In between cleaning, I’ll be blogging. I have a lot of that to catch up on as well. It’s hard to write when you are too sick to think. And finally, once all that is caught up, I’ll be picking up the knitting again. Since i have started decreasing the gusset on these socks, I am ready to have them finished. I might even have enough time to squeeze in another project for this cycle of Project spectrum, if it’s small enough. Like more socks ;)

We have heels

I just finished putting the heels in my socks, using the [tag]Sherman heel[/tag]. I am still not decided on what to do about the leg. I need to decrease the gusset, so I have afew rounds to decide. I’m thinking on it still. I had pretty much decided on feather and fan, but now that I am sick and lazy, I am leaning toward 2×2 ribbing, or possibly a 3×3 spiral. Thoughts?

The cotton means I can wear them all summer. Wool socks can get a little too warm in summer, but these puppies will work even if I go to an Orlando vacation home for a bit. Yeah, like that’s going to happen. You know I’m saving for Vegas, baby!

Food Meme

My friend Ann has tagged me with an interesting meme. I’m supposed to name five local places that I like to eat. Here are the complete rules:

1. Link to the name of the person who tagged you.

2. Include the state and country you’re in.

3. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location (locally).

4. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I’m in North Carolina, as you know, and I don’t know how local Ann thinks local should be, so I’ll start here in bitty-burg.

1. Subway-love their pizza.

2. Chinese buffet- It’s Chinese and it’s buffet, and that really says it all, doesn’t it?

3. Bojangles-yeah, it’s fried chicken, and, fried chicken is good food.

4. Andy’s-their hamburgers are just the best.

5. In the next town over, Golden Corral, because no matter what I am hungry for, it’s there.

I am tagging Mama, Carla, Colleen, Deb, and YOU (you being whoever answers in teh comments that they want to play).

Nap or Knit?

Oh, ya’ll. It’s bad. Like, really bad. Like, sit in the recliner and alternately knit and nap. Which is exactly what I am going to do, and when DH gets home, I am going to officially call the day done.
