Knitting as Prayer

Sometimes, when I am knitting around, and around and around, my inner self quits yammering at me, and I am able to hear that still small voice. It doesn’t happen very often, because my mind is pretty yappy. But sometimes, yes. It’s like…because my hands are busy doing a task that does not require the active involvement of my mind, I can just be. It’s like washing dishes by hand. There you are, doing a simple task, and your mind and heart are free to work on other things. It was this effect that finally made me understand the purpose of rosaries: by giving the hands something to do, the mind is released to reach out to God.
