Never Again

Once upon a time, in a far away land an idealistic couple bought a palace. Oops, wrong story!

Several years ago, in Topeka, Dh and I bought a real dive, intending to fix-it up. We planned to do all the work ourselves, without using any Local Contractor Services. It was a disaster. We lived there for 3 years, and only managed to replace a whole 2 windows. Oh, we also took down a bunch of plaster and lathe, too, but never got dry wall put up.

At the time, we had 2 small children, and had 2 more born while we lived in that house. Any intelligent person would have called in a professional from the get-go. But not us. We did use a handy man for a few hours, but that’s it.

We did end up using a contractor to do some serious foundation repair. Every bit of the money we got for selling that place went to him.

I tell you this much–if the thought of doing such a thing again EVER crosses my mind, I’m getting a local contractor to look the place over first. I want to know exactly what I am getting into before I sign on the dotted line. I’d have saved myself a lot of grief if I’d just known the real deal.
