On us
We went to see Grandmother tonight. We walked in the room, and she said “Thank God”. Well, she practically shouted it, really. She was positive that something had happened to Mama. Last week, she was positive my uncle was dead. The staff actually had to call him to calm her down.
It’s a combination of things. She’s not drinking enough, and because she is in kidney failure, that affects her mind. She dreams vividly and always has. And her roommate has a television, which Grandmother apparently did not realize was a TV. She can’t adequately see it or hear it to tell , I guess. Sigh.
She is hallucinating her greatest fear. She is the last of her siblings, and only 2 of her 5 children remain. She is terrified of being left alone, I know. It hurts my heart. My mom, she gets mad. But only to protect her heart.
We pumped fluids into her as hard as we could while we were there, and I assured her that if there were bad news she needed to hear, that Uncle, Mama or myself would come tell her, not the staff and not the tv.
