Ouch!

1) DD#4 ate Cascade last night. Vomiting ensued. And do you know how fast that stuff gets to the *other* end? Less than 5 minutes! She’s fine today. And before you ask why she wasn’t being supervised, she did it with her 3 oldest sibs in the kitchen. Can you say “speed of light”? Toddlers are justthatquick.

2)My hands hurt. I think it must be from the sock knitting. I have noticed that I really fight the socks on bamboo dpns as opposed to the pair I have on my metal Inox circ. Does that mean I need to buy more of those? :P I haven’t had this problem before, so I may just need to switch off with some larger gauge projects. But man, I love to knit some socks. Yummm, socks!

3)My boys need new shoes. I know the ones they have are too small. I had been holding off getting them, hoping we could get to Myrtle Beach, where we can pick up Vans for less than 20 bucks. Well, with all that’s going on, I have no idea when that will be, so Mama is looking at Kmart today.

4)My budget is non-existent. Lord, your children need stuff. Please send clothes, shoes and bras. If you prefer to send time and money, I’ll be happy to handle the shopping for you. Amen.

That was partly tongue-in-cheek, but also absolutely true. I rarely, very rarely run into a situation where everybody needs stuff at the same time. But DD#4 had to have new shoes a couple weeks ago, DD#2 had to have new shoes this week, and now the 3 boys. As for the bras, those are for DD#1, and must come from Myrtle Beach. They don’t sell her size here.

The children are out hiding and hunting eggs in the yard. I was not planning to take a break from school, but I may give them the day off and catch up on some stuff here. I took a couple days off myself, and of course that always means playing catch-up.

He Is Risen!

He is risen indeed!

Candy!

The children went to an Easter Egg hunt this morning at our church. There will be another one tomorrow at Granny’s. I need to take a dish to lunch there, but have no clue what it will be. I’m planning to take anyone who isn’t sick to church tomorrow. Guess I should back up and tell ya’ll that DD#4 is running a fever off and on, and DD#3 is hoarse.

I’m knitting socks today. Surprised? Thought not. I got a good bit done on DH’s last night while watching a movie, and today I am working on DS#3′s. I know I told you I was gonna do up the autumn Trekking for me, but I am waffling. That pinky-peachy Trekking is *really* calling out to me. I probably won’t make a final decision until I cast on. Yes, I’m fickle and yes, I listen when yarn talks to me. I manage to live with it, so can you, LOL!

First Set Complete

Here they are–the first group of socks :)

top left: very long and very ribbed socks for DD#5, Opal Brasil 5001
top right: DD#2, can’t-find-the-label, but it has “Disco” in it’s name
bottom left: mine, from Cascade Fixation 9907
bottom right: DD#4, same Brasil

Next up: DS#3, DS#2, DH and me. All the yarn is selected, except mine. It’s such an embarrassment of riches that I don’t know where to start! ETA: I decided on the autumn-ish Trekking in the first pic of the stash page

I did confirm that the yarn used for Convertible is indeed sock weight. So, the tiger or something new? What think you?

Good Friday?

I was thinking last night–why do we call this Good Friday? This day when our Saviour was sacrificed for the sins of all mankind? I mean, I realize that without the death, the birth is meaningless, that without Easter, there would be no Christmas. But Good Friday? Reflective Friday, Sad Friday, Repentance Friday, Redemption Friday, all those, yes. But Good Friday, well, it kinda glosses over the fact that we are each of us guilty in His death, doesn’t it?

I’ll be back later today with a more cheerful post.

2 months, 8 pounds 4 ounces

Ignore the spit-up on the clothes, I changed her right after I took the pic. It was not nearly so obvious to the naked eye :P

Knitting Day!

I woke up at my normal time today. Then I had a breakthrough with the pump, so it took 2 hours to finish with that. Seems the “comfort” whatever its called was impeding the milk flow! It’s the softer silicon piece that you put in the cup part of the pump. Anyway, got a ton of milk, LOL!So, now I am that far behind, and need to get cracking. I’ll deal with my “first things”, and then see where I am.

I’ll be knitting today as much as I can. Susan Bates puts out a package of sock needles. There are 4 or 5 sets in the package, from 000 up to 1 or 2, and they retail for $9.99. I sent DH to ACMoore with 2 50% off coupons, and he’s gonna pick up a couple of packs for DD#1 and I. I figure if we only use them to “park” socks we are currently bored or frustrated with, it’s still a good buy. That also means that I’ll be able to re-cast on the socks I had to rip off the needles because they were the wrong size. Yes, I did that! I started his socks on size 3s in an attack of stupid. I thought they were 2s, but the fabric was awfully loose, so I checked them. Yep, 3s. Since then I have discovered that Inox actually stamps the millimeter size into the metal part of their circular needles. No wearing off as is the case with Addis. My other 2 pair of socks also got ripped off the needles when I needed them to do other socks. Small loss since I had only cast on, and not done any real work on them.

Hmm, can’t really think of anything else to say. Guess I am just that boring! I do feel an itch to cast on a new project that is not socks. I may or may not resist that urge. My opinion based on past behavior–I’ll probably scratch that itch sooner rather than later. But perhaps I will be able to appease the muse by knitting on one of the things I already have going.

Oh yeah. Yesterday worked well, the not getting stressed part. I was much nicer than on Tuesday, and even squeezed in a sorry job of pretending to mop my kitchen floor after the kids were asleep. Everyone noticed it this morning :)

Not gonna get stressed!

Today, I am going to consciously practice NOT getting stressed. I am not going to let myself get overwhelmed! I figured out late last night that, while I got all my cards done, I totally lost focus of the reason for the cards! The reason is so the house runs smoothly, so my family can enjoy being here. If I am a shrew, NO ONE will like being here, even if it is smooth. So, today, I’ll work on the cards, but I’ll also stop along the way to enjoy my kids.

Socks: 6 done, with 2 pairs. I expect to show you the first set tomorrow or Friday :)

Interesting note: I can get 2 socks from one ball of yarn. Not the big balls. The regular ones. I suppose this is because my girls prefer footies to actual socks. Nonetheless, that’s a lotta socks!
