Miss me?

I know today’s post is late ya’ll. I overslept this morning, and had no time to sit with you for a bit. But here I am, and I have “things ta say”.

Now, I said no more on Cindy Sheehan, and I am not saying a word. Really. But I will drop the strong hint that if you were to meander on over here or here, you might find some interesting reading about Todd Beamer and a guy named Andy.

Ya’ll know I love a dog. Ya’ll also know I will never have another one. But I can live vicariously. Gunther has been adopted by a knitting blogger I read. He’s a whopping 15 days old now. I’ll be following his adventures :)

Ann posted about this. It would be laughable if it didn’t hurt so much.

Wiccan Reversal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A judge who ordered two Wicca believers to shield their son from their “non-mainstream” faith overstepped his authority, an appeals court said Wednesday in dismissing the order.

The Indiana Court of Appeals said state law gave a custodial parent the authority to determine a child’s upbringing, including religious training. A judge could find that certain limitations were needed to protect a child from physical or emotional harm.

You may remember I blogged this story the first week of July. I am delighted by this reversal. Those of you who think I’ve lost my mind need to remember that my/your right to be a Christian is only as strong as “their” right to be *not* a Christian. I happen to have acquaintance with several Wiccans, and none of them are as dangerous as your average radical Muslim, for instance.

Easley denies Pardon

Easley denied the petition of Sylvester Smith, 54, who was convicted in 1984 for first degree rape and two counts of first degree sexual offense, the governor’s office said Wednesday.

Smith said Easley had a conflict of interest because he prosecuted the case when he was district attorney in Brunswick County. “I don’t think he’s man enough to say he made a mistake,” Smith said.

A judge ordered Smith released from prison in November. The accusers, who were 5 and 6 at the time of the trial, recanted their earlier testimony and said their grandmother told them to say Smith was responsible for the abuse rather than their 9-year-old cousin. The cousin, who can’t be prosecuted because of his age at the time of the crime, is serving a life prison sentence for murder. The grandmother has died.

Smith won a new trial and a prosecutor dismissed the charges.

Now, why CNN did not say this, I do not know, given the reputation we have down here. But I saw the news. Smith is a man about as black as I have ever seen. He does not speak well, apparently not well educated, and certainly not well-heeled. Easley? Yep, Easter-Lily white.

I looked at dh last night after they showed this story. And I said, “This is just WRONG, that was not a robbery conviction, but child molestation. He should NOT have to live with that stigma if he did not do the crime.” I’m still shaking my head over it.

Terrorists involved in……..terror?

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) — A militant Islamic prison gang may have been behind an alleged plot to attack synagogues and National Guard installations on Jewish holidays or the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, investigators said.

The group — known as Jamat Ul-Islam Is Saheeh, or JIS — is headed by an inmate at the California State Prison, Sacramento, law enforcement officials said. It has existed for about five years and is one of at least three Islamist groups operating in state prisons, officials said.

Is anyone really surprised by this?

Ok, there’s enough to keep your mind busy over that postprandial coffee. Yes, Fee, you can laugh. Just don’t spew yours on the screen.
